How to Experience God’s Presence

God-confidence

Many believers long for a deeper relationship with God – to hear His voice more clearly, feel His presence more deeply, and walk more closely with Him. The wonderful news is that God’s heart is always open to us. His love never changes, and He is always available.

However, there comes a point where we must make the decision to seek Him intentionally and draw near to Him.

The Bible says: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)

Notice there is an invitation for us to take a step toward Him and as we draw near to Him, He responds by drawing near to us.

The Pursuit of Relationship

In every healthy relationship, there is pursuit. One person reaches out, and the other responds. Over time, that mutual pursuit creates intimacy and connection.

With God, the beautiful reality is that He has already taken the first step. He demonstrated His love for us long ago by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. The price has already been paid.

Now God invites us into a relationship where we willingly pursue Him.

It is as though He is saying, “My heart is open. My love is available. Now come closer. Seek Me. Prioritise Me. Make room for Me in your life.”
A deeper relationship with God does not happen accidentally. It requires intentionality.

Creating an Atmosphere for His Presence

Many people pray, “Lord, I want more of You. I want to experience Your presence. I want deeper encounters.”

Yet God often responds by asking us to prepare room for Him.

I was once telling someone that if they desire God’s presence in their home, they should also consider the atmosphere they are creating. Is their environment honoring to God? Is there order, peace, and stewardship?

While God’s presence is not limited by a perfectly clean room, our outward environment can often reflect the condition of our hearts. Creating a place of peace, prayer, and reverence helps us cultivate an atmosphere where we can focus on Him without distraction.

Seeking God with Your Whole Heart

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Do you immediately reach for your phone? Or do you take a moment to acknowledge God? Do you speak to the Holy Spirit? Do you spend time with the One who comforts, guides, and helps you?

The Bible gives us a beautiful promise:

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13, NKJV)

Notice the condition attached to the promise: with all your heart. God promises that those who seek Him sincerely will find Him. If you desire God’s presence, then seek Him wholeheartedly.

Abide in Him

One of the greatest keys to experiencing God’s presence is learning to abide in Him. Jesus said: Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. (John 15:4, NKJV)

To abide means to remain, dwell, stay connected, and live in constant fellowship with Him. Abiding requires intentionality. When God abides in us, our relationship with Him becomes deeper, stronger, and more fruitful. We begin to experience His guidance, His peace, His wisdom, and His power in greater measure.

Learning from Enoch

One of the greatest examples of intimacy with God is Enoch. The Bible says: And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. (Gen 5:24)

What a remarkable statement! Enoch cultivated a lifestyle of abiding in God’s presence. Whether he was working, living, or carrying out daily responsibilities, he maintained fellowship with the Lord. His relationship with God was not limited to specific moments, it was a continual walk.

Can that be said of us? Can people look at our lives and say, “That person walks with God”?

What a beautiful testimony that would be!

Draw Near with a True Heart

The writer of Hebrews gives us further instruction:

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” (Heb 10:22-23)

This passage teaches us several important truths.

First, we must draw near with sincerity, with a true heart.

Second, we must come in faith, believing that God will respond.

Third, we should maintain a clear conscience before Him.

If there is sin, unforgiveness, bitterness, guilt, or condemnation weighing you down, bring it before Jesus. Surrender it to Him. The closer we draw to God, the more we should desire purity in our hearts and minds.

The Bible reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corin 6:19)

Because we belong to God, we should desire to keep our hearts, minds, and lives surrendered to Him. This does not mean we come to God after becoming perfect. Rather, we come to Him honestly, allowing Him to cleanse and transform us.

May you walk with Him

May this word encourage you to pursue the presence of God with renewed passion. May you walk with Him as Enoch walked with Him. May His presence become your greatest treasure, and may your life be marked by deep intimacy with the Lord!
