A Lesson from Prophetess Anna
Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Luke 2:36-38
I like Anna in the Bible who was a widow and did not depart from the temple but night and day served God through fasting and prayer.
“Oh, but she was a widow and she had no commitments!” you may say. But she could have done so many other things. She could even have gone bitter with God concerning the things that happened in her life.
Instead, she made a choice.
She chose to devote the rest of her life to living in the house of God and seeking His face consistently.
Because she was consistent in her walk with God, her eyes saw the Messiah.
Be persistent
Many times we start off with great excitement in our walk with God. But soon we allow this fire to dwindle away. Anna had every reason to give up or sulk in a pity party but she was persistent. That was her life. She was so full of the Lord.
I remember when I came to the Lord, I used to write journals to the Lord saying I want to wake up with your presence, I want to be in constant fellowship with you. That has always been my desire.
Child of God, what do you soak yourself in, is what drives your desire. If the whole day you are soaking yourself in the things of the world, that’s what is going to show up. However if you soak yourself in the Word of God, Worship and prayer, you will begin to overflow with His presence. That’s what revival is all about – creating a lifestyle of prayer and being constantly connected to Him.
Today I want to encourage you, stir up the fire of God in your life, and run with persistence. And, like Anna, you will see the reward!
