You Shall Not Miss the Mark!

But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. In all the signs and wonders which the Lord, sent him to do in the land of Egypt before Pharaoh, before all his servants and in all his land and by all that mighty power and the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel (Deu 34:10-11)

The Bible mentions Moses as the only prophet with whom God spoke face to face.

Wow, isn’t that amazing?

Moses pursued God with great zeal, and God favoured him and used him to perform many mighty wonders. Yet the same Moses, who had led God’s people for 40 years, who had stood on Mount Sinai, who had talked with God “as a man talks with his friend” (Exo 33:11), was only allowed to see the Promised Land from Mount Nebo (Deu 34), but not enter it.

Isn’t it ironic that the one to whom God spoke face to face, unlike any other prophet, could not enter the Promised Land?”

Anointed, gifted and still miss it?

So is it possible that someone can be truly anointed and gifted, yet still fall short of walking in God’s promises?

Yes! being anointed and gifted does not make someone immune to missing the mark.

If you read Numbers 20, you’ll see that Moses was denied entry into the Promised Land because of his partial disobedience. Though he was anointed, gifted, and faithfully carrying out God’s calling, he failed to follow one simple instruction from God – God wanted him to speak to the rock, while he ended up striking it twice.

However, I believe in Moses’ case it was not just his lack of obeying an instruction, but there was a part of him that didn’t completely trust God.

Your choices carry consequences

There’s a big lesson to learn here. You got to understand that the choices you make in life carry consequences and so make sure that your choices are birthed in complete obedience to God’s Word. When you do things out of disobedience or partial obedience, God will forgive you as you humble yourself; also His love for you remains unchanged, but the consequences of those choices cannot be undone.

For example, if you choose to marry someone whom God, according to the principles of His Word, clearly said no to, you may be forgiven, but it’s a decision you’ll have to live with.

So child of God, beware!

If you look at Moses’ situation, God still performed the miracle—water flowed from the rock, and the Israelites drank. That’s the mercy of God!

Sometimes, God may still meet your needs or even grant the desires of your heart, but you could still miss the bigger picture. The choices you make out of frustration or pain can end up costing you far more than you realise. Be mindful of every decision you make especially, when you are angry or frustrated. Don’t function in disobedience. Don’t doubt the goodness of God. Sometimes you don’t know what is waiting for you on the other side because of the wrong choice you made.

Child of God, If you feel a tug in your heart reading this, know that it’s not to make you feel condemned, but consider this as a love invitation from God to realign yourself. God never shames or condemns His children, but Hebrews 12:6 reminds us, “The Lord disciplines the one He loves.” May be in the past you have made mistakes, but it still doesn’t cancel your calling. So rise up, because you are much loved!

I declare: You shall finish well. I break the power of the negative words spoken over you as a result of your wrong decisions. You shall enter your promised land. Not only you but you generations shall inherit God’s promises and you shall be faithful to the Lord all the days of your life!
