Three Ways You Can Lose God’s Favour

ONE: WHEN WE JUDGE OTHERS

Recently I came across a man of God speaking against Christian conferences. His reasoning was that no real ‘transformation’ happens at these conferences. I was taken aback a little because on one hand he was preaching about the love of Christ and on the other hand he was using his platform and influence to put his fellow believers’ efforts down.

Paul in his letter to the Philippians rejoiced in the fact that the Gospel was preached, no matter what the motive was.

Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
(Philippians 1:15-18)

You see, when you make it your life’s mission to condemn others, you lose the favour of God upon your life. Sometimes we become so legalistic that we forget that Christ came to show us mercy. As much as you need God’s mercy, your brother in Christ also needs mercy! Let us not judge, lest we be judged.

And, if you want to go after somebody, go after the devil. Go after the kingdom of darkness. Don’t put your fellow believers down who are trying to spread the light of God in their own capacity.

TWO: WHEN WE FOCUS TOO MUCH ON OTHERS AND LOSE FOCUS OF OUR VISION AND CALLING

Many a time we are so focussed on changing others, whereas we ourselves have been struggling for breakthroughs in our lives.

May be because you are constantly criticising and condemning others, that’s why there is so much of limitation in your own life.

Let us humble ourselves, lest we start opposing God. The Bible says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
(James 4:6)

Child of God, it is time we rise ourselves first, and allow the light of God to shine through us. It is our responsibility as Christians to mature in Christ by constantly learning, changing and growing in the Lord, instead of trying to change the world around us.

THREE: WHEN WE HOLD ON TO UN-FORGIVENESS AND SINS

The way you can live free is by letting go of unforgiveness, bitterness and past hurts. Don’t give room for sin in your life that breaks God’s heart.

Also don’t allow condemnation or self-pity to keep you away from God’s presence.

Confess your sins to one another and make yourself accountable (James 5:16).

Go into the throne room of grace with boldness and confidence because you are washed by the blood of Jesus.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:15-16)

As you do your part, the Lord will lift you up in the time to come and He will cause His favour to shine upon you.
