Learning Everyday Dependency With Jesus

by | Oct 10, 2013 | Jesus

I remember the times when I would often go to God even for the smallest issues. More like how my baby girl Kathryn was when she was an infant. She could do nothing by herself. She clinged to me and it continued all day long.

Kathryn is now nineteen months old. She doesn’t need as much as help as before. She can walk, run and even climb up a chair by herself. She even knows how to play her videos on her video player. And it starts to worry me when she’s silent for too long because I know she’s up to some mischief.

I notice, that even as believers of Jesus, we tend to grow out of depending on God. We most often tend to become independent of Him. Herein lies our problem.

There is no situation that Jesus cannot help you through. But the problem starts when we stop depending on Jesus. Our problems become stronger when we are relying on our own knowledge and strength. We forget God and rely on our own strength and on people around us instead of our Father in heaven.

Somewhere down the years I started to confide in people more than God. I found myself running to online resources more than sitting at His feet. And I realized as the challenges grew, I was helpless and hopeless. But thank God for challenges, as God does allow them as a reminder for us to depend on His strength.

Many times the last thing we do is call out to Him. But the Lord has been putting in my heart how it is so important for us to depend on Him and His Word all through our lives. God is calling us to get back to our initial days of dependency of Jesus.

Here’s a great example in 1 Samuel 30:6 “Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.”

If you notice from the above verse, David could strengthen himself in the Lord only because he was dependent on God. [ClickToTweet]

Oh, how we need Jesus every second of our life and how we need to hold on to Him tight.

When we depend on Jesus, we can face any storm. One secret of the women of God, Kathryn Kuhlman was that she was a woman who was so dependent on the Holy Spirit for anything and everything. How easy life will be when we are so yielded to the Holy Spirit.

The Lord is wanting you to depend on Him and not on your confidence or experience or wisdom or friends but Him. His grace. I pray that you will rely and depend on Him in your life, career, marriage, relationships, and everything else. Be blessed.
