A Chess Lesson

Please welcome our dear friend Jenny Svetec, a mighty women of God from Canada. She’s a prophet who is being mightily used by God to speak His heart to this generation.

Recently my ten year old son was teaching himself chess on my phone while we enjoyed a rare breakfast at a local diner. As I explained the names and positions of the chess figures, Jon questioned, “Why is the Queen so powerful in chess?”

“The Queen has only one job: to protect the King. She is the most flexible, moves the farthest and can move in any direction because she must protect her King at all cost. The King rules his kingdom only as long as the queen guards her King.”

Even as I was making my simple explanation, my heart awoke to this new revelation of marriage.

In a world fraught with fights for rights, survival of the fittest and our insatiable need for comfort, the medieval game of chess offers a powerful revelation of the grace of marriage.

Called to be a royal priesthood, Christian believers are called to advance the kingdom of God, like the ancient medieval kings and queens of old. Destined to rule, the king, when supported by the grace and love by his queen, will rule wisely and rule long.

The queen’s wisdom, service, kindness and love will sustain the king and if his heart is steady, the king is empowered to impact his kingdom with greatness. However, when a queen fails to appreciate the grace of her flexibility, endurance and ability and lives resenting the king’s apparent privileges, she misses her destiny and compromises her husband’s kingdom of influence, limiting the destiny which God had intended for the royal couple and their lineage.

Though Peter and Paul didn’t always agree, for the subject of marriage they both carried the same counsel:

Ephesians 5:24 “Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.“

1 Pet 3:1 “Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives.“

Queens who are subject to their king, love and worship the King of kings, Jesus Christ by their hearts of valour. If we pray let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven, we must recognize the power and privilege of our position as wives and live with a fierce understanding of how necessary we are for the kingdom of God as loving wives.

Like it or not, we are the most powerful influence in our husband’s lives and we are called to honour and protect and bless our kings in deed, in prayer and in heart.

For the Kingdom of God advances forcefully, one act of obedience at a time. Royal woman, let us recognize who we are and who our God is and walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
